Two weeks ago a catalytic event threw my husband into what we coaches call square one of the change cycle of life. His position was eliminated. Square one is a loss of identity in a section of your life and to quote Martha “It feels a lot like being sucked into a jet engine, without the blessing of a quick physical death. …it is a death you have to live through”. First and foremost I had to work through my own limiting beliefs of “Oh shit, we are going to lose everything and be homeless…my children will be scarred for life!!!” We all have this freak out at some point and nothing good comes from it so first I put on my oxygen mask and remembered to breath. By that I mean I reminded myself of the abundance in my life and sunk into my favorite meditations so I could become centered and connected to my inner voice. I coached myself on my own limiting beliefs and replaced them with beliefs that are truer and felt better like “we are both educated professionals and we can embrace this opportunity to grow in abundance.” Yes, that feels much better.
From this place of interconnectedness I was able to coach him. We tackled his own limiting beliefs/thoughts and began to uncover what was true for him. Losing his job was a circumstance he could not control. What he can control is his thoughts around the circumstance so his actions can move him forward into the best possible direction. If your thoughts and beliefs are negative you either won’t be able to move forward or you will end up in a vicious cycle of negativity. I can’t stress this enough, negative thoughts/beliefs=bad feelings=negative action=negative results which keeps us stuck. In this cycle, You won’t attract what you want and no one wants to hire someone in a negative, desperate cycle. You need to come from a place of confidence and purpose. From this place of confidence and purpose he has put out lots of resumes, had several interviews, and reached out to all of his business contacts. He still hasn’t found his next endeavor but he is putting himself out there in a way that people are responding too. Everyone has been very supportive. All of this is happening for a reason and as uncomfortable as it may be right now, all we can do is learn from the situation and stay positive so we can be open when our next adventure comes. It’s not always easy and we still have our freak outs but I coach us through it and of course…breath. I will keep you posted.
When you find yourself in square one remember to breath and pick out those limiting beliefs and bop them on the head by replacing them with truer beliefs. If you get stuck I would be honored to coach you through it.
