I was walking through downtown Baltimore and I came up on a couple in a heated argument. They were screaming and I was limping towards them with a hurt foot so I got a pretty good idea of what had gone down. Apparently, he had cheated with a woman that she had warned him about in advance. She seemed to have known the woman’s intentions and possibly his pattern and saw it coming and well…obviously he chose to indulge despite her warning. So there he stood earnestly pleading for her forgiveness, spewing excuses, begging her to stay. She was trying to walk away but he would just follow her pleading his case. She was strong and articulate and she was really laying it on him. This pain that she had so wanted to avoid was palpable but there was resolve in her voice and her actions. My heart went out to her. I wanted to stop and be in that space with her to help her stand strong and show her she is loved. When I looked in her eyes, behind the pain, I saw a woman turning a corner, I saw perseverance, I saw…I got this but thank you for the seeing me. She was moving on…she was choosing herself and it was beautiful!
We’ve all been in this situation on some level…maybe we learned the first time around or maybe we had to have several go rounds before we chose ourselves. It’s the human experience. It’s how we learn. It’s how we grow. It’s how we weed through the “not so much” and get “Yes!!!”. When we find ourselves in this raw intense pain from a reality gone wrong, after we are exhausted from screaming and crying and if your like me throwing things… You can cease this perfect opportunity and choose to learn and grow. If growth sounds better than reliving the same scenario over and over and… Start taking responsibility for the role you are playing and stop blaming anything/anyone outside of yourself by asking:
*What choices am I making to keep me in this situation?
*Where am I giving away my personal power?
*Where am I not choosing and loving myself?
*What thoughts am I holding on to that aren’t true for me?
The answers will come and if you choose to act, you will empty your hands of what’s not working so beautiful things can come!! Yes!!
