“It’s always darkest before the dawn” is something my mom would say to me when I felt like the floor was falling out from under me. Not just during the normal everyday drama but the real life laid off, can’t pay our bills, getting evicted from our apartment, where are we going to live kinda…Read more »

“When One Door Closes, what You Do in the Hallway Determines the Awesomeness of the Other Door that Opens” ~Julie
“When one door closes another door opens” ~Alexander Graham Bell We’ve all heard this quote when being pushed into an uncertainty or a big change in our lives. I discovered that they leave out a very integral part of this quote. There are actually two quotes: “When one door closes another door opens, but we…Read more »
If It’s Not Working…Empty Your Hands
I was walking through downtown Baltimore and I came up on a couple in a heated argument. They were screaming and I was limping towards them with a hurt foot so I got a pretty good idea of what had gone down. Apparently, he had cheated with a woman that she had warned him about…Read more »
Fear Busting Gratitude
According to research grateful people are happier, less depressed, less stressed, and more satisfied with their lives and social relationships. Grateful people also have higher levels of control of their environments, personal growth, purpose in life, and self acceptance. Grateful people even sleep better. Like most moms, I am very thankful for my life, my…Read more »
Dream Analysis: What’s Your Message?
When you sleep, your thinking mind will rest, and your inner subconscious mind finally gets a chance to speak. When we set an intention to remember our dreams and write our dreams down we will remember them more and more. The imagery tends to become very vivid, leaving you with a feeling of deep knowing…Read more »
Chronic Headaches or Path Clearing Compass?
I have had headaches for as long as I can remember. I have memories of me as a very small child clutching my “headache pillow” for dear life. I would just breath in the comforting smell of the feathers and pray relief would come soon. After my daughter was born I had daily headaches for…Read more »
Life Is Not One Size Fits All
Great for helping you get still.
While I was at a conference, I had lunch with two other life coaches and a professor at UT. We were talking about what we like to eat and what was working for us to not only keep weight off but to feel great and be healthy. It was fun to share how different our tastes for a splurge are and how different our recipes for feeling great are. We weren’t trying to push our own experiences off on each other but we were learning from each other and taking in what might feel good for us to try. We all seemed to have found what was perfect for our bodies. I love that! Our bodies are different, our lives are different, and nobodies path looks the same but they are all perfect for us!
I remember when I had my first son. I have never been put into so many clubs without even registering. There was the stay at home mom club vs. the work mom club, breast feeding vs. bottle feeding club, store bought vs home made baby food, preschool vs. montessori , etc. You get the picture. I remember being afraid to answer when asked about these issues because they were such hot buttons. Someone could instantly love or despise me just from one answer. I became adept at skirting around answering for fear of losing a friend, family member, or even an eye. Not only did I feel like these were extremely personal (my business) but people seemed to take one extremely personal decision you have made on how to care for your child and make it about THEM. Friends and family would pressure me into moving to their club. In reality, I was so overwhelmed and sleep deprived from having a new baby, that I could barely remember my own name. I sure couldn’t stay in anyone else’s business long enough to be anything less than happy for them.
You see our lives are just like our diets. They are not supposed to look the same. When making life’s big decisions you can listen to all the wisdom of others until the cows come home and I suggest you do…until you can’t. Then take away all that feels true to YOU! Turn off the endless thought loop in your head and get still. You entered this life with a gift, your own personal manuscript, don’t forget to take time to stop and download it.
If you are like me you need some help getting still. Here is a great link.
